Workshop with Emil Wendel

Practicing Yoga Beyond The Asana
A 3 dayworkshop with Emil Wendel (our main Teacher)

Emil was born in Switzerland and has been living in Asia since the mid-seventies, studying Sanskrit and Indian Dharma on the Subcontinent, as well as Chinese Philosophy and Taoism in East Asia.

His long residency of 25 years in India and Nepal has allowed Emil an exceptional insight into the depth of Indian civilization and its philosophical current. He is sharing this insight in teacher training courses, retreats and workshops a.ll around the world, serving to develop and deepen the yogic process.

As our guest in Galway for a few days, he is presenting a method of merging Hatha Asanas and Pranayamas with the lesser known disciplines of Mantras and Mudras - creating a potential of Dhyana, the perfectly still meditation, to unfold.

The information part covers the early sources of Yoga, the development of Prânâyâma, Mudras and Mantras as yogic disciplines, and finally, an overview of the latest finding in neuroscience, designed to assist us in making sense of our daily yogic efforts.

The Papillon Programme: Yoga for Heart Healing Launches in Galway

Never before in Ireland has there been an aftercare programme specifically designed with the unique needs of post-surgery cardiac patients in mind… until now. Under the expert guidance of Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeon, Mr Mark da Costa, of Galway University Hospitals together with David and Laragh Cunningham of Galway’s Yoga Shala, participants will be offered a unique yoga programme designed specificially for those with a history of cardio-problems.
Yoga has been shown in many studies to improve  health in cardiac patients by specifically lowering blood pressure, controlling blood sugar in diabetics, lowering cholesterol levels, regularising irregular heart rhythms and improving function in cardiac failure. The Papillon Programme offers techniques to transform and sustain a healthy lifestyle based on the principles of yoga. The intense nature of the course: 1 hour, 3 times a week for 4 weeks;  means that participants can expect to see many changes and transformations due to the frequency and discipline of the practices.
Commenting on the development of the programme, Mr Mark da Costa said:
“This programme will be the first of its kind in Ireland helping cardiac patients  develop a healthy lifestyle for life after cardiac surgery. I am pleased and honoured to be able to work with dedicated yoga teachers David and Laragh Cunnigham”.
For more information on The Papillon Programme,  you are welcome to a  free special information meeting on Wednesday, 17th February, at Mulberry’s Restaurant, Barna Village Centre, at 10:30am. Or phone 085-1573153 for more details. The first Papillon Programme is due to start Monday 22nd Februrary, in The Yoga Shala, Barna. Places are limited so early booking is advised.
